The man accused of killing Japan's former prime minister, Shinzo Abe, has been sentenced to life in prison.
Tetsuya Yamagami shot the former leader at a campaign event in 2022.
The 45-year-old pleaded guilty at the trial's opening last year.
Abe was the longest-serving leader in Japan's history. His assassination while delivering a speech in broad daylight sent shockwaves across Japan.

The Syrian government has announced a four-day ceasefire with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, following renewed fighting in the north. The SDF says it will abide by the truce. The government says the ceasefire will give time for the SDF to find ways to integrate the northeastern province of Hasakah. The US says it will be working to ensure the ceasefire holds.

Spain’s prime minister has declared three days of mourning in the country following a high-speed rail crash on Sunday. At least 40 people were killed when a train derailed and collided with another in southern Spain.
