Plymouth Argyle head coach Tom Cleverley and Bristol Rovers boss Steve Evans have both been charged by the FA for misconduct after they were sent off during . their Vertu Trophy round of 16 meeting.

The FA claim that the two acted in an improper manner with Cleverley being sent off in added time of the first half and Evans dismissed after the final whistle.

Cleverley received two yellow cards in quick succession after a decision went against his side – one for leaving his technical area and another for striking the dugout in reaction to his first booking.

Argyle ended up winning the tie at the Memorial Stadium in dramatic fashion with a 4-3 victory via a 95th-minute winner.

Speaking after the game, Cleverley said: “It’s something I have to absolutely hold my hands up and say it’s not good enough.

“I’m the one who demands the standards from the players and staff and demands discipline from the players and staff and I’ve not shown it too many times myself.”

The FA’s statement details that the two head coaches have until 21 January to provide their responses to the charges.
