If you never lived through it, as I didn’t, that heady sixties garage heyday where a straight three chords through a punctured speaker cone was the sound that captured a generation, the new single from Greece’s The Basements is a total trip back in time. On Feelings, and on b-side Foolish Lies, they are channelling the likes of The Seeds and The Elevators to fine effect, hammering home that the sound launched from a thousand garages has never, and will never, leave us. As long as there are new ears pricked to that fuzz-tastic infectious groove, the spirits of Saxon and Erickson will continue to influence. Anyone looking for the next generation of Teenage Shutdowns, Back From The Grave, future (unfortunately) Garage Unknowns, need look no further. Rogue Records have got you covered.

But if what you’re after is a hefty dose of RnB in your garage-rock, Just Drink Wine, the latest single from Sweden’s The Maharajas is just the medicine. It is a killer A-side that proves that whatever is drunk that far north, it is keeping the world in some pure riff-ripping, foot-tapping and hip-shaking rock n roll. Does any country really do it better? Over on the flip-side, they push the pedal to the metal to ramp through Broken Teller, a fantastic pub-rock, powerpop, garage-rock number. As our own Louder Than War radio show Left Of The Dial is so keen on stating: This is where the cool it at.

A Plea From Louder Than War
Louder Than War is run by a small but dedicated independent team, and we rely on the small amount of money we generate to keep the site running smoothly. Any money we do get is not lining the pockets of oligarchs or mad-cap billionaires dictating what our journalists are allowed to think and write, or hungry shareholders. We know times are tough, and we want to continue bringing you news on the most interesting releases, the latest gigs and anything else that tickles our fancy. We are not driven by profit, just pure enthusiasm for a scene that each and every one of us is passionate about.
To us, music and culture are eveything, without them, our very souls shrivel and die. We do not charge artists for the exposure we give them and to many, what we do is absolutely vital. Subscribing to one of our paid tiers takes just a minute, and each sign-up makes a huge impact, helping to keep the flame of independent music burning! Please click the button below to help.
