Half Court enter the music scene with a great debut tune Shiver and a new twist on indie bands with a nice blend of shoegaze and laid back yet wall of sound attitude that pulls them apart from the mundane tread of the mill ‘tryers’ that soak the tried and tested nonsense in a tepid bubble bath of boredom. Wayne AF Carey is enlightened…
I’ve been a bit lazy lately discovering new talent, yet this band Half Court have got me back in touch again. I saw their first ever gig at the Salty Dog a few weeks back supporting the excellent TV Face and Gas Kunst and when the guitarist / vocalist Matt Awberry slid in a cheeky Stone Roses riff I thought, fucking ‘ell, here we go again, more indie landfill backing up the main bands. Two songs in I thought I was at a Ride / Slowdive gig back in the early Nineties. A cool as fuck set of songs from a band I know for sure have massive talent. I spoke to Matt backstage and he’s probably one of the most laid back don’t give a fuck guys I’ve met for a while. The tunes are testament to the whole ethos of where they want to go.

Guitarist & singer Matthew Awberry states:
“I was listening to a lot of cold sounding electronic soundscape based music through my recovery early post addiction and I developed a fascination with the experience of real sleep which massively influenced what I began to write when we formed the band.
I know what this song is about to me and I think that’s how all of our songs should stay, but vaguely this song is about everything clicking into place.”
Half Court’s vision is to incorporate ethereal lo-fi acoustic influences with the classic sound of the 90′ shoegaze and post rock.
Shiver is a spine chilling debut that ticks all the boxes for me. There’s the indie feel in there yet it’s a building tune that gives you a vision of where they’re heading. Soundscapes that scrape your brain with anthemic notes that have you wanting more. Excellent.
