London newcomers Mouth Ulcers sign to LAB Recordsand share new single ‘Prevail’ (video here), out today (February 26th).
Representing a new generation of dark post-punk (The Cure, Bauhaus, Twin Tribes), reshaping the genre into something urgent, youthful and intoxicating, Mouth Ulcers’ atmospheric guitars, tribal percussion and cavernous baritone vocals provide a sound described as ‘music for vampires to dance to’ – moody, physical and irresistibly cool.
Drawing from classic post-punk darkness while injecting fresh energy, the quartet stand alongside emerging acts redefining the underground. Their music feels immediate and alive, balancing menace with momentum and atmosphere with drive. Having recently made their live debut with sell-outs shows in the UK and the Netherlands, Mouth Ulcers are primed to unveil an extensive summer live plot, with news of their forthcoming debut EP set to arrive imminently. Their next gig will be at our Louder Than War Live festival in Manchester on March 14th – details here.
Speaking on ‘Prevail’, the band stated: “The meaning behind Prevail was inspired by the film ‘stalker’ by Tarkovsky. The mental and physical struggle of surviving ‘The Zone’, a hostile and reality warping environment which threatens to erase one’s sanity.”
Mouth Ulcer’s ‘Prevail’ is out now via LAB Records and available on all digital platforms.
Mouth Ulcers is Zak Watson (vocals/guitar), Josephine Rose (guitar/vocals), Jamie-Lee Culver (bass), David Zbirka (drums)

A Plea From Louder Than War
Louder Than War is run by a small but dedicated independent team, and we rely on the small amount of money we generate to keep the site running smoothly. Any money we do get is not lining the pockets of oligarchs or mad-cap billionaires dictating what our journalists are allowed to think and write, or hungry shareholders. We know times are tough, and we want to continue bringing you news on the most interesting releases, the latest gigs and anything else that tickles our fancy. We are not driven by profit, just pure enthusiasm for a scene that each and every one of us is passionate about.
To us, music and culture are eveything, without them, our very souls shrivel and die. We do not charge artists for the exposure we give them and to many, what we do is absolutely vital. Subscribing to one of our paid tiers takes just a minute, and each sign-up makes a huge impact, helping to keep the flame of independent music burning! Please click the button below to help.
