The Dear Boys release I Hope You Know How Fucking Cool You Are, two minutes and eight seconds dedicated to the next generation…
The transatlantic act, The Dear Boys, featuring three sexagenarians, Tony Page, Tony Fletcher and Brett Buddy Ascot, celebrate the youth of today whilst without any irony sounding like the pure power punk pop movement that inspired them. It’s a raw and bursts with as much energy as anything that they’ve released so far and continues a great run of singles.
Lyricist Fletcher explains, ‘I never wanted to be one of those boring old farts who looked down on ‘the kids of today’ and complained about their tastes in music or fashion or hobbies simply because they’re not the ones we had ‘when we was young,’ he continues, ‘I believe in the youth, now so more than ever considering the challenges they face – especially in countries (like my homelands of the UK and USA) where discrimination and prejudice by ethnic group, skin colo(u)r or/and gender and its fluidity is on the rise.’
As well as being available download and streaming (but not on Spotify or Amazon Music for moral reasons) I Hope You Know How Fucking Cool You Are and future single, Procrastination are available on a limited edition cassingle, hand-numbered, with photo inserts designed by vocalist Tony Page, a man who loves DIY culture and putting this kind of thing together, as well as author of the Anoraky In The UK books
As with other releases Jeni de Haart has put the video together. In keeping with the songs subject matter, rather than three old men it features footage (by Crazy Ass Movie) and portraits (by Casey Orr) of new bands WENCH!, Mona Freaka, We’re Here! To Kill, and The Sick Fix.

A Plea From Louder Than War
Louder Than War is run by a small but dedicated independent team, and we rely on the small amount of money we generate to keep the site running smoothly. Any money we do get is not lining the pockets of oligarchs or mad-cap billionaires dictating what our journalists are allowed to think and write, or hungry shareholders. We know times are tough, and we want to continue bringing you news on the most interesting releases, the latest gigs and anything else that tickles our fancy. We are not driven by profit, just pure enthusiasm for a scene that each and every one of us is passionate about.
To us, music and culture are eveything, without them, our very souls shrivel and die. We do not charge artists for the exposure we give them and to many, what we do is absolutely vital. Subscribing to one of our paid tiers takes just a minute, and each sign-up makes a huge impact, helping to keep the flame of independent music burning! Please click the button below to help.
