John Denton releases Reality, his fourth since going solo via Modern Sky

Reality follows recent single, Waiting Till It All Works Out, is taken from his debut EP, Someone Else’s Game due for release at the end of June the single marks a bold new chapter in his songwriting.

Having played guitar and written his own songs since the age of 8, John performed his first ever gig at Malaga Drift Coffee Shop in Eccles at just 11. Gaining early recognition as frontman of the band The Height, releasing 7 singles before going solo, aged just 14. In February 2025, Denton released his solo debut single, Not The Same, an upfront and honest song addressing social injustice and poverty around the world – all from the perspective of a teen brought up on the streets of Salford.

Reality was penned after travelling to London for his first-ever gig in the capital, a moment he’d long dreamt about, buzzing with excitement as the city unfolded around him. Yet, beneath the thrill, he felt the tug of home, of Salford and Manchester, the familiar comfort of home, and that emotional contrast shaped the heart of the song. In many ways, Reality nods to Scottish singer-songwriter Dougie MacLean’s 1977 classic Caledonia, echoing its themes of belonging and the pull of one’s roots, while transforming them into something fresh and youthful.

The track is upbeat, confident, and built for sunshine, let’s hope for warm summer nights ahead! John believes Reality is his most exciting release yet. With GCSEs soon to be behind him and a huge summer ahead, he is hoping it to become a crowd favourite when he and his band hit festival stages and gig venues throughout 2026.

John Denton: Reality – Single Review

A Plea From Louder Than War

Louder Than War is run by a small but dedicated independent team, and we rely on the small amount of money we generate to keep the site running smoothly. Any money we do get is not lining the pockets of oligarchs or mad-cap billionaires dictating what our journalists are allowed to think and write, or hungry shareholders. We know times are tough, and we want to continue bringing you news on the most interesting releases, the latest gigs and anything else that tickles our fancy. We are not driven by profit, just pure enthusiasm for a scene that each and every one of us is passionate about.

To us, music and culture are eveything, without them, our very souls shrivel and die. We do not charge artists for the exposure we give them and to many, what we do is absolutely vital. Subscribing to one of our paid tiers takes just a minute, and each sign-up makes a huge impact, helping to keep the flame of independent music burning! Please click the button below to help.
