A man has been jailed and banned from driving after he crashed a stolen delivery van into barriers around a historic church.
Reece Rowe, 29, of Lisson Grove, Plymouth admitted aggravated vehicle taking and driving while disqualified and having no insurance on 16 October.
Plymouth Crown Court heard Rowe got into the van which had the keys inside and drove at speeds of 61mph on 30mph roads.
Rowe struck other vehicles with the van before it ended up perched over the lip of the barrier around the derelict Charles Cross church. He was jailed for 16 months and banned from driving for 20 months.
GoogleRowe was arrested by pursuing police after he drove on the wrong side of roads, went through red traffic lights and mounted pavements.
The court heard Rowe had 19 previous convictions for 42 offences which included dangerous driving offences in 2017, 2019 and 2024.
Defence barrister Rupert Taylor said Rowe was in a considerable state through drug and alcohol addictions and had been arrested by police three times before the incident.
He said fortunately no one was injured in the incident of poor driving,
The judge, recorder Tim Kenefick, said Rowe was trying to get away from police, driving dangerously and impeded by alcohol at the time.
Rowe told the judge his driving was “awful, really bad” and said he was ashamed of what he did.
