The Owl Sounds

Phil Wyer steps out from under the darkness of Meryl Streek’s stunning live sets, straps on his guitar and delivers a surf rock tune with muscle, a great funky beat and a slicing guitar solo that delivers with his (not so) lo fi vocals packed with a punch from Meryl himself splitting his now recognisable vocals to blast this tune into a debut oblivion. Exciting stuff for his debut. Read on…

The Owl Sounds is the solo project of multi-instrumentalist and song writer, Phil Wyer. Originally from the UK, he is now based in Wexford, Ireland and is the guitar and bass player for punk producer Meryl Streek. Oscar is the first single released under the project name The Owl Sounds. It features surf rock guitars and intense beats which give way to vocal hooks from Phil and guest vocals from Meryl Streek.

Speaking on the track Phil relates: “I suppose the track starts with my daydreaming of farming trees and living off the land. Dave’s vocal comes in and introduces the reality to that and then my reaction to how it affects my mental health-it’s all about wishing to live a simple quiet life and if that even exists in the modern world anymore.”

Oscar was recorded and mixed between Phil’s home studio and Darklands Audio by Dan Doherty (Meryl Streek, Fontaines DC) and mastered by Pete Maher (U2, Pixies, Depeche Mode)

A Plea From Louder Than War

Louder Than War is run by a small but dedicated independent team, and we rely on the small amount of money we generate to keep the site running smoothly. Any money we do get is not lining the pockets of oligarchs or mad-cap billionaires dictating what our journalists are allowed to think and write, or hungry shareholders. We know times are tough, and we want to continue bringing you news on the most interesting releases, the latest gigs and anything else that tickles our fancy. We are not driven by profit, just pure enthusiasm for a scene that each and every one of us is passionate about.

To us, music and culture are eveything, without them, our very souls shrivel and die. We do not charge artists for the exposure we give them and to many, what we do is absolutely vital. Subscribing to one of our paid tiers takes just a minute, and each sign-up makes a huge impact, helping to keep the flame of independent music burning! Please click the button below to help.
