Essential repair works to lifts and escalators at a shopping centre have started.
Torbay Council said the work at Fleet Walk shopping centre in Torquay was hoped to improve access for visitors by connecting all levels of the car park with the shops and Fleet Street.
Work on the escalator that serves a Sports Direct store and the gallery started on Monday and was expected to be complete by 21 February, said the local authority.
The next phase of the works was expected to begin in March and focus on repairs to a lift towards the harbour end of Fleet Walk and serves all levels of the car park, the gallery and Fleet Street, it said.
Councillor Chris Lewis, deputy leader at the council, said: “I’m pleased to see essential repair and refurbishment work beginning on the lifts and escalators at Fleet Walk shopping centre.
“The planned work will help to ensure reliable connections between the shopping centre, car park, and surrounding areas, improving access for all visitors and supporting nearby businesses to thrive.
“The first phase has already begun, and I’d like to thank visitors for their patience while these essential works are carried out.”
