Sophia Garvey: Let The Cat In

Sophia Garvey shares the unsettling yet infectious new single Let The Cat In, the latest offering from her upcoming album Pure Filth.
Using the image of a cat shut outside as a metaphor for desire, the single is a shameless, full-throttle expression described by Sophia as “nefarious”, like ’90s Madonna at her most confrontational: smeared eyeliner, sweat on the dancefloor, teeth bared.
The snarling three-minute release channels pop-rock instinct, dragging lust and chaos in its wake, resulting in a track that (pun intended) is unapologetically feral. Unpolished, gritty, and urgent, it builds from an offbeat, psychedelic verse, where wailing guitars nod to the ongoing feline symbolism, before bursting into a driven, high-octane chorus.
Powered by pounding live drums and gritty bass under the wall of guitars, the song’s strength lies in its overall feel – a sweaty, visceral intensity that makes it raw, immediate, and hook-laden, but with bite. Taking an unexpected turn at the two-minute mark, a key change into the guitar break propels the momentum forward, surging into the fuzzy force of the closing section.
Garvey’s artistic foundation makes the boldness feel earned. Starting out at 16 and collaborating with Richard Huxley before moving to Leeds to study Fine Art, she has built her world with intention. Her previous single Post Break Up Sex landed a sync on Season 4 of Netflix’s You, after which she recorded an EP with Matt Parker (Late Nights, Life Of The Party, Girl On TV, Ohhh Honey). The new release carries a clear sense of determination and creative vigour, a signal that Garvey is continuing to evolve and push toward new heights.
