Radipole Lake set for weed and reed clear out to boost flow

A lake at a nature reserve is set to have excessive weeds and reeds removed to improve the flow of water.Dorset Council said the clear out at Radipole Lake, Weymouth is being carried out due to ongoing issues with low water levels, silt build-up, and algal blooms partly caused by agricultural runoff and slowed river flow.It is hoped getting rid of the abundant weeds and reeds from several spots on the lake will also make allocated fishing areas…

Ideas sought for Plymouth Armada Way time capsule

People have been asked to come up with ideas for items to be included in a time capsule being buried in Devon.Plymouth City Council is planning to bury the capsule under Armada Way next summer before it is dug up in 2047 to mark the centenary of the plaza being rebuilt after World War Two.It said people could suggest items which fit themes including "Plymouth now", nature and the sea, community and belonging, creativity and innovation and everyday…

Cornwall restoration project sees meadows ‘come to life’

A major nature recovery initiative is transforming south-east Cornwall's landscape, the National Trust has said.More than 70 acres (28.5 hectares) of species-rich meadow has been restored since 2020 and there are plans for another 247 acres (100 hectares) over the next five years.The restored meadows at Lansallos and Coombe Farm near Fowey and Ethy near Lerryn have become donor sites, supplying wildflower seed to enhance grasslands at other National Trust locations across Cornwall, including Cotehele, Godrevy, the Roseland…

Topless runner to take part in topless swim in Devon

A cancer survivor and campaigner will be taking part in a charity swim later. Louise Butcher, who is known as the Topless Runner, will be among the swimmers at the Royal Devon Hospitals Charity Topless Swim 2025 which aims to raise funds and awareness of breast cancer.
