Iran’s president Masoud Pezeshkian has accused what he calls “rioters” and “terrorist elements” of hijacking antigovernment demonstrations and causing havoc.
Masoud Pezeshkian addressed the unrest in a television interview as the protests enter a third week.
President Donald Trump has said the US will “hit Iran where it hurts” if protesters are killed.
Tehran hasn’t confirmed the number of demonstrators who have died.
Three days of mourning have been declared in the country.
