Torquay United boss Jimmy Ball praised striker Louis Dennis after his two late goals helped the Gulls win 3-0 at Weston-super-Mare.

Dennis had not scored since netting twice in the reverse fixture between the sides on Boxing Day.

But the second-half substitute came off the bench to score twice in a two-minute spell late-on to add to Matt Worthington’s 15th-minute opener as the Gulls moved up to fourth place in National League South.

They are now four points off second-placed Worthing and seven off leaders Dorking Wanderers with four games to play, while the win gives Torquay a three-point buffer from Chesham United who occupy the first place outside the play-off zone.

“Louis’s a wonderful football player,” Ball told BBC Radio Devon.

“I’ve got no answers as to why he’s not been more prolific in the league this season.

“All I can deal with is now and trying to get him on the ball in the right areas, get him running forward, get him being aggressive in his mindset of rather than coming back to get it going forward to get it, because when he does that his feet are outrageous.

“He sat the lad down in the in 18-yard box for his goal, it’s top class.”
