Princetown Primary Community SchoolA new weather warning for ice has been issued for Cornwall, as both the county and parts of Devon were hit by snow and ice.
Devon County Council said Princetown Community Primary School was shut due to low staff numbers as a result of the weather conditions.
Callywith College in Cornwall said “no lessons” would take place and buses had been suspended due to “adverse weather conditions in the Bodmin area”. Earlier, icy road conditions were reported on the A30 in the Temple area, and heavy hail showers caused tricky conditions in Fraddon.
The new Met Office yellow weather warning for ice covers most of Cornwall from 18:00 GMT on Thursday until 11:00 on Friday.

Mark ShackletonHead teacher at Princetown Primary Community School, Josh Bullock, said: “We have had to close today due to snow and hazardous conditions. However, we have set home learning for the children and hope to be back open tomorrow.”
Snow has been reported in Bodmin, Camelford, Tavistock, on Dartmoor and Plympton.
In the new Met Office weather warning it said: “Wintry showers will lead to icy patches and some disruption on Thursday night and Friday morning.”
It added there would “probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths”.
SouthwestSimon/BBC Weather WatchersIan Cobham, who runs Dartmoor Brewery at Princetown, said snow in the area was “really pretty”, but said there was not that much of it.
“There’s a little bit of snow,” he said.
“It’s not like it was a few times last winter when it was just covered in snow and nobody could get up and down the hill. I think we’ll be OK.”
Paul Wilkins, on-call manager at Devon Highways control room, said there had been “no major impact to the network”.
OldPierreMr Wilkins said: “We have 37 main gritting routes, which cover around 1,800 miles of our road network.
“We’ve got around 40 weather stations which are constantly feeding information back to us. We’ve got a bespoke weather forecast provider.”
He said combined it “allows us to make well informed decisions, in the morning, throughout the course of the day to ensure we’re treating the network and keeping it as safe as possible”.
practicallyperfectCormac said it was looking to deploy gritters in Cornwall at 16:00 on Thursday and at 03:00 on Friday.
Plymouth Highways said gritters would be out from 16:00 on Thursday covering both the primary and secondary routes and a second covering would be carried out at 03:00 on Friday on primary routes only.
