Hundreds of Santas ride through Cornwall and Devon for hospice

Hundreds of Santas on motorbikes have ridden through two counties to raise money for a children’s hospice.

The Santas On A Bike annual ride raises money for Little Harbour children’s hospice in St Austell, Cornwall, part of Children’s Hospice South West.

The bikers set off from Ivybridge, Devon, earlier and travelled through Saltash, Liskeard, Lostwithiel, Par and Charlestown in Cornwall, before arriving at Little Harbour.

Kevin Moorey, one of the organisers, said: “The feeling of riding with 200 plus other Santas, seeing supporters along the way waving, and collecting much needed funds is possibly the most uplifting thing any of us will do over the festive season.”

He added: “We never know until the day, just how many Santas on motorbikes will arrive, yet every year there seem to be more.”

Mr Moorey said more than 400 people joined in 2023, before 2024’s event had to be cancelled due to a red weather warning.

He added the scarlet stream of biking Santas received a warm response earlier.

“The sight of all the motorbikes along the route brings great pleasure to people we pass.

“We are extremely well-supported by people in each town, the pavements are usually crowded on both sides, with well-wishers waving and cheering.

“The faces of the children are a sight to be seen.”
