A man has been held on suspicion of attempted murder after another man was struck by a car.
The alleged victim was hit by a BMW in Bournemouth town centre at about 00:25 GMT. He suffered injuries to his arm and leg but did not require treatment.
Dorset Police said the car drove off and did not stop when later spotted by officers.
After enquiries, a 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and driving offences.
Police said the incident, involving a black BMW, happened in Old Christchurch Road, near the junction with Wootton Gardens.
Officers said the vehicle was subsequently seen in Lansdown Road and failed to stop for police.
Det Insp Jon Sainsbury said: “From our investigations so far, we understand there were a number of people in the vicinity, including members of the public who intervened and attempted to get the suspect out of his vehicle following the collision.”
The force has urged witnesses and anyone with footage to get in touch.
