Cornish Pirates’ “execution was off” in their 47-10 loss at mid-table Chinnor, according to coach Joe Walsh.

The defeat was Pirates’ heaviest of the season and a fourth in succession as they dropped from fourth place to eighth in the Champ table.

“The execution was off, parts of our plan we need to look at,” Walsh told BBC Radio Cornwall.

“But ultimately Chinnor executed the basic skills of the game really well and we executed our skills poorly.

“Whether it’s a home game or an away game, any level of opposition, you’ve got to execute your own skill well, you’ve got to execute your own plan well.

“Rugby is a weird game, I still back us to go out and get a result in our next two games, but sometimes your energy’s wrong on the day and you’ve just got to take your medicine.”

Morgan Nelson’s try was the only positive for Pirates in a first half that saw them concede four and trail 26-7 at the break.

Having allowed two more touchdowns after the restart, Ben Cambriani went over for the Pirates’ second before the hosts took their try count to seven to seal an impressive win.

Pirates face league leaders Ealing – who have won all 11 of their games – in their next match before travelling to Coventry.
