A fundraiser for a man who lost his wife and two children in a house fire in Stroud, has raised more than £160,000 in two days, according to Gloucestershire Live. The fire happened in the early hours of Boxing Day.

Labour MP for Filton and Bradley Stoke, Claire Hazelgrove, says she is “concerned” over plans for housing on land near Bristol, reports Bristol Live. The MP said she had been contacted by many residents in the village of Winterbourne.

An empty Minehead shop is being converted into a new pharmacy following the closure of the town’s Jhoots branch. It was one of 60 branches in the West Country to have been taken over in November by Allied Pharmacies, reports the West Somerset Free Press.

A Swindon barber and a group of volunteers spent their Christmas Day offering free food and drink to those in need for the fourth year in a row. Sylvester King from Route 8 Barber helped serve nearly 200 meals, reports the Swindon Advertiser.

According to Bristol Live, 19-year-old Bristol boxer, Tiah Mai Ayton, has made history after becoming the first woman to be named as the UK Prospect of the Year by boxing magazine, Boxing News, which has been running for more than 100 years.

Swindon Borough Council shared a post on Facebook about the fictional “Swindon East” station that was featured in BBC One’s Death in Paradise over Christmas. It said it was “great to see Swindon put on the map”.

Cheltenham Town Football Club posted about their highest League Two crowd in nearly 20 years with 5,980 spectators at Whaddon Road to witness the 2-0 defeat to West Country rivals Swindon Town.

Somerset Council posted about a new TV show featuring Dawn French, filmed in and around Axbridge and Cheddar, which is due to air next week. The comedy, Can You Keep A Secret, will go out on BBC One from 7 January.
