A gentle and reflective service was held at a church in Cornwall for people who find the festive season difficult.

The Blue Christmas service, led by local priest the Reverend Lisa Coupland who starred in series three of the BBC’s Traitors, was held at St Mawgan-in-Meneage Church near Helston.

The service aimed to provide a peaceful space for those who may be struggling through bereavement, loneliness, stress, or other personal challenges.

Mrs Coupland said it was a wonderful way to bring people together.

She said the carols were more reflective.

“We don’t have a lot of standing up and sitting down, people can just sit quietly, it’s up to them how much they want to participate,” Mrs Coupland said.

“But it’s also to show them there’s a little bit of light in the darkness and there’s hope.

“Christmas is as much for them as it is anyone else.”

She said although the service on Saturday was not part of National Grief Awareness Week, the church was mindful that the festive season could bring feelings of loss, adding she hoped the service offered support to those who needed it.
