The feelings Danny Andrew experienced when he was relegated last season are spurring him on to help Exeter City survive in League One.

Andrew, 35, was part of the Cambridge United side relegated to League Two last season.

He joined Exeter in September and has returned to the team this month after being out since November with a calf injury.

With City one place above the relegation spots after a 13-game winless run, Andrew will do everything he can to avoid the situation he faced 12 months ago.

“It’s a horrible situation when it becomes mathematically impossible to stay in the league,” he told BBC Radio Devon.

“It’s probably one of the worst experiences I’ve had in football last season.

“You just feel like you’ve let everyone down really, like yourself and everyone close, the fans, the club, everything, your teammates.

“So it puts a big fire and an extra added spice into it that I really don’t want to go down again, it’s not great for anyone, so it fuels the passion to achieve keeping Exeter in this league.”
