The family of a young father who died in a road crash has issued a tribute expressing “the deepest sadness” over their loss.

Adam McClelland, 26, died in the incident in Wimborne Road in Poole, Dorset, on 7 January, despite the efforts of emergency services.

His family said he left behind “his two beautiful boys aged six and four and their mum, a mum and dad, seven brothers, grandparents and friends who will keep his memory alive forever”.

A 51-year-old man from Bournemouth was arrested on suspicion of driving offences but Dorset Police said he had been subsequently released on bail as investigations into the collision continues.

Officers responded to the incident at 02:12 GMT and had found McClelland unresponsive near to the junction with Heath Avenue, in Oakdale.

The force said that following further enquiries, a vehicle involved in the collision had failed to stop.

The victim’s family said the loss had left “a massive emptiness in our lives that is impossible to fill”.

“Funeral arrangements are being made and will be distributed to everyone who loved and knew him, over the next few days,” the tribute added.

Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward.
