A group of volunteer emergency doctors has been named as an association’s charity of the year.
BASICS Devon, whose volunteers respond to serious medical emergencies, supporting the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, has been named the charity of 2026 for the Devon County Agricultural Association (DCAA).
Each year, the DCAA selects one charity to support – which includes making them the sole organisation eligible for donations throughout the Devon County Show.
John Lee, a DCAA member, who cast the deciding vote, said: “BASICS Devon is doing such incredible work across the county of Devon, helping save lives, in particular, in rural communities.”
He said: “I am delighted their outstanding work has just been recognised with The King’s Award for Voluntary Service, a fitting tribute to their commitment and dedication”.
Amie Bull, fundraising manager at BASICS Devon, said: “We are honoured to be named the association’s charity of the year… it’s an event we’ve always hoped to be part of.”
The charity of the year initiative was introduced by the DCAA in the 1970s.
The selected charity is given a free stand at the Devon County Show and inclusion in the show’s marketing and PR campaign.
