Vape Battery Sparks Fire in Exeter Bin Lorry

A vape battery thrown into household waste has caused a serious fire in an Exeter City Council bin lorry, sparking urgent calls for proper disposal of electrical items.

The fire broke ...out on Magdalen Street at 6:32am, melting the vehicle’s electrics and causing over £25,000 in damage. Quick-thinking waste crew members used the vehicle's compacting mechanism to try to contain the blaze, and Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service responded swiftly to extinguish it.

Cllr Ruth Williams, Lead Councillor for Place and City Management, commended the waste crew and fire service and issued a warning:

"This all happened because someone threw away their electronic vape without thinking… My plea to all Exeter residents is this: please take responsibility for your waste and use your bins responsibly."
