An updated weather alert for ice has been issued for the South West, as a “light dusting” fell in parts of Devon on Saturday.

The Met Office yellow warning runs from 16:00 GMT on Saturday until 12:00 on Sunday.

A second yellow alert runs from 15:00 on Sunday to 12:00 on Monday. The service said icy patches may cause travel disruption, as well as injuries due to slips and falls.

Devon County Council warned locals to travel with care, and said that roads and paths that looked clear were likely to still be frozen.

It advised drivers to accelerate gently, increase stopping distances and allow more distance between vehicles.

Snow was reported in Torquay, Okehampton, Plymouth, Meldon, Holsworthy and other parts of Devon.

The Met Office weather warning said showers of sleet and snow would affect parts of the South West during Saturday evening and overnight into Sunday morning.

It said that where showers occurred, icy stretches would develop on untreated surfaces.

While many areas would see little accumulating snow, there was potential for several centimetres on Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor, it added.

The Met Office had previously issued a warning from 18:00 on Friday to 10:00 on Saturday.
