Matt Worthington & Callum Dolan: Torquay United suspend pair for ‘disciplinary matter’

Torquay United captain Matt Worthington and team-mate Callum Dolan have been suspended by the National League South club.

The midfielders will not play for the next four matches after what the club says is an “internal disciplinary matter”.

Worthington has played in 16 of Torquay’s 17 league games this season while Dolan has scored two goal in nine games.

”It’s hugely frustrating, it’s another obstacle put in front of us,” Torquay manager Paul Wotton told BBC Radio Devon.

“It’s been a very testing period, but I think it’s a really important time to stick together, stay strong.

”We’ve got a game to focus on tomorrow, that has to be our full focus and that’s what we’re doing.”

The pair were not selected for the 2-0 FA Trophy loss to Maidstone United last week.

They will miss Saturday’s game with Eastbourne Borough, next Tuesday’s meeting with Worthing, the trip to Chelmsford on 29 November and the home game with Tonbridge Angels on 6 December.

“It’s been very difficult,” added Wotton.

“I personally believe it had a big impact on the Maidstone game.

“People don’t understand what goes on on a day-to-day basis, it’s very easy to judge and to have an opinion, but you’ve got to go deeper than that sometimes – it’s been tough.

“But we’re a resilient bunch, we stick together, fans as well, and we unite and we crack on.”
