Modern Woman continue a relentless march towards their debut album by releasing their second single of the year, Neptune Girl, as well as announcing further UK tour dates. Already established as a favourite in their live set, this song has a much edgier and danceable feel at it challenges morality in the world of adolescence.

With London art-rock outfit Modern Woman it already feels like a case of waiting for a London bus….. ages pass by with nothing on the horizon and then suddenly two come at once. And with their debut album, Johnny’s Dreamworld, already recorded and set to be unleashed in May 2026, so it is with the release of new single Neptune Girl which comes just six weeks after Dashboard Mary hit the airwaves. And with gems like this starting to come think and fast from Modern Woman I cannot get enough of it so read on and listen…

Neptune Girl once again draws on the bands melting pot of influences as its collage of shifting tones and dynamic rhythms collide in perfect dis-harmony. With propulsive drums and bass and fractured guitar lines all feeding into a heavy danceable beat, whilst Sophie Harris once again stretches her expansive vocal register to its limits, it’s a song which is a perfect illustration of the band’s penchant for an explosive approach to sound and melody, especially as the intensity increases mid-song. The accompanying video was produced by award-winning animator Joseph Brett.

Neptune Girl explores the world of morality through the lens of childhood, trying to come to terms with what it means to be good or bad before you understand those words. As the band explain, “This was built off an image of growing up in England, playing in the roads and fields with a friend who later went up to heaven. Heaven is, I imagine, somewhere near Neptune.”

A Plea From Louder Than War

Louder Than War is run by a small but dedicated independent team, and we rely on the small amount of money we generate to keep the site running smoothly. Any money we do get is not lining the pockets of oligarchs or mad-cap billionaires dictating what our journalists are allowed to think and write, or hungry shareholders. We know times are tough, and we want to continue bringing you news on the most interesting releases, the latest gigs and anything else that tickles our fancy. We are not driven by profit, just pure enthusiasm for a scene that each and every one of us is passionate about.

To us, music and culture are eveything, without them, our very souls shrivel and die. We do not charge artists for the exposure we give them and to many, what we do is absolutely vital. Subscribing to one of our paid tiers takes just a minute, and each sign-up makes a huge impact, helping to keep the flame of independent music burning! Please click the button below to help.
