BBCVolunteers from a Christmas lights event had to battle through the “worst” conditions they have faced to get the switch-on ready.
The Mousehole Harbour Lights were turned on during an event on Thursday with hundreds of people heading down to the village’s harbour to look at the displays.
There are 60 displays at the event – which was first organised in 1964 – with 90km (56 miles) of cables and 7,000 bulbs installed.
Ian Metcalfe, one of the volunteers who set up the displays, said the wet and windy conditions of Storm Bram in Cornwall made it challenging to get the lights ready on time.
He said: “This year has been, I would say, the worst.
“I did think we were going to be in a great position and finished by Sunday – I was relaxing thinking I’ve got a week of nothing.
“However, that’s not been the case, I’ve been out every day since fixing and replacing things.”
Terri Munday, who runs a deli in the village, said having the light displays was important for businesses.
“Without the lights, I’m not sure we’d be busy enough to stay in service,” she said.
“Like some other businesses, we may have had to close seasonally.
“It’s so lovely and so pretty, it just adds joy in Christmas, you need it in a little village.”
