Northlew Nativity ExhibitionA nativity exhibition made up of about 80 nativity sets collected from around the world is being put on display this weekend.
Organisers said the display at St Thomas’s Church, Northlew, Devon, was believed to potentially be the largest Nativity Exhibition in the South West.
Luisa Hulbert began collecting nativity sets from Africa, South America and across Europe after her husband, Victor Hulbert, gave her an olive wood nativity set that he bought from a Palestinian Christian in Jerusalem.
The exhibition is due to be open Saturday 10:00-16:00 GMT and Sunday 12:00-15:00 and is free to enter.
Among the exhibits are family heirlooms from people in the village, a Lego nativity and hand-crafted exhibits in clay, felting, cork, egg boxes and buttons.
Mr Hulbert said his favourite nativity was the one he was got from Jerusalem and one made by his wife in a Portuguese style made of air dry clay.
Mrs Hulbert said her favourite was one her friend made for her, at the request of her husband, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
“That is very special because going through a rough time, that gives you a certain hope,” she said.
Northlew Nativity ExhibitionReverend Jonathan Cook said: “I am so impressed with the varied styles and artistic impressions that I am seeing here of an event that is so central to Christianity.
“We normally just see one set in an individual home, just seeing all these together from so many different people and cultures in amazing.”
Organisers said refreshments would be on sale and all donations would go to support The Children’s Hospice South West.
