‘Professional’ Torquay United brush aside Hampton and Richmond

Torquay United manager Paul Wotton praised his side’s performance as they won 4-1 at home to Hampton and Richmond in National League South.

Having gone a goal down, the Gulls responded well to consolidate third place.

They are two points behind second-placed Weston-super-Mare, who have a game in hand, and three behind leaders Hornchurch.

“It was a really good performance, a really good three points,” Wotton told BBC Radio Devon.

“Four top-class finishes, we should have had a lot more as well. I think all in all it was a very professional performance, a very patient performance.

“I thought we played some great football – we had a 10-second lapse where they score, but other than that I thought it was really, really good.”

Aaron Lacey gave the visitors a 21st-minute lead, but Callum Dolan curled a 39th-minute equaliser into the corner of the net.

The impressive Sonny Blu Lo-Everton made it 2-1 seven minutes into the second half as he fired into the top corner and Jordan Young added Torquay’s third 11 minutes later.

Dylan Morgan added a long-range fourth in stoppage time to complete the victory.

“I loved that when we went 1-0 down, the boys just kept doing what they did, believed in the process and just kept doing the right things,” added Wotton.

“Sometimes it goes for you, like today – other times, like at Totton, it doesn’t and it’s pretty much copy and paste both games.

“But they’re believing in the process, the boys are in a good place. I say it all the time, this is a hell of a squad when everyone’s fit.”
