A surf therapy charity has thanked supporters after it reported helping a record number of people in 2025.

The Wave Project, which was founded in Cornwall in 2011, said it supported 2,674 children and young people in the last 12 months, more than ever before.

The charity offers surfing classes to support young people’s mental health, across its 17 locations across the UK, staffed by 1,397 volunteers.

“Over the past 12 months, our community has shown up in so many ways,” the charity said.

Among the activities held by the charity in the South West was the Croyde Surfathon, a 12-hour fundraising event during which instructors and volunteers helped show people of all abilities how to surf.

The charity said: “This year has been full of moments that brought people together in support of Surf Therapy.”

It said that as children and young people are “facing increasing mental health challenges, early intervention matters more than ever”.

It added that it wanted to support wellbeing, reduce anxiety and help young people thrive, and in 2026, the charity will be celebrating its 15th anniversary.
