Plymouth Argyle head coach Tom Cleverley says he recognises that his discipline “is not good enough”.
The Pilgrims boss was sent off for the second time this season in his side’s 4-3 Vertu Trophy win at Bristol Rovers.
Cleverley will face a third touchline ban of the season, having been suspended for a game in December after collecting three yellow cards, while he was sent off in the win at Luton Town in September, earning a two-match punishment.
The 36-year-old received two yellow cards in quick succession on Tuesday night after a decision went against his side – one for leaving his technical area and another for striking the dugout in reaction to his first booking.
“I’m putting myself at risk of these punishments, so it’s absolutely my fault, but I thought it was extremely harsh,” he told BBC Radio Devon.
“It’s something I have to absolutely hold my hands up and say it’s not good enough.
“I’m the one who demands the standards from the players and staff and demands discipline from the players and staff and I’ve not shown it too many times myself.
“But it comes from a good place. I want the club to do the best that I possibly can and when I feel like there’s a bit of injustice in decisions then I feel like I need to protect the players as much as I can.
“I see how other technical areas are acting and I felt like a threshold was set and it comes from a good place.
“I really want us to win, I just need to rein it in a bit.”
