Torquay United beat Eastbourne Borough 7-0 in biggest win since 2018

Torquay United boss Paul Wotton says his side’s 7-0 win over Eastbourne Borough was “as a near perfect a performance as you can get”.

The Gulls’ biggest win since 2018 ended a difficult week after captain Matt Worthington and team-mate Callum Dolan were suspended following a ‘disciplinary matter’.

But the Gulls put their off-field problems aside as they thrashed their opponents to move up to fourth place in National League South.

Louis Dennis began the rout in the seventh minute before adding a second after half-an-hour.

Goals from Jordan Young and Dylan Morgan ensured it was 4-0 at half-time before Dennis completed his hat-trick early in the second half.

Morgan got his second a minute later before Young also scored for a second time to complete the rout with 27 minutes to go.

“My boys run for me, you saw that today, their commitment and their effort, that’s always been there,” Wotton told BBC Radio Devon.

“I’m proud of them, and I thank them for their efforts again, it was a near perfect a performance as you can get.

“We’ve obviously had a very tough week or 10 days, a lot of disruption, so I think we needed that.

“They needed a game, because training hasn’t been great, it’s been flat for obvious reasons, so it’s good, I’m very proud of them today.”
