Manager Paul Wotton says Torquay United have one of the best squads in National League South after his side’s 3-1 win over promotion rivals Weston-super-Mare.
Louis Dennis gave the Gulls a sixth-minute lead in front of more than 5,000 fans at Plainmoor.
Matt Jay was on hand to make it 2-0 shortly before half-time as he fired in from close range after Sam Dreyer had headed on Jordan Young’s cross.
Charlie Cummins pulled a goal back for the visitors with 18 minutes left, but Dennis was on hand to volley in from outside the box to score for the 10th time in eight league games six minutes later to make it 3-1.
The win lifts Torquay above Weston into fourth place in the table, four points behind leaders Hornchurch.
“I thought it was a good team performance,” Wotton told BBC Radio Devon.
“We’ve got some good players, we’ve got some top players.
“I think when everyone’s fit, I think we’ve got the best squad in the league.
“Some days it’s our day, some days it ain’t and today it was our day.”
