Arrest after social media threats sent to Devon school settings

A man has been arrested in relation to threatening messages being sent to school settings on social media, police have said.

Devon and Cornwall Police said officers arrested a man in Exeter on suspicion of malicious communication offences and they are “not seeking anyone else in connection to this matter”.

Officers said news of the offences had “circulated amongst the community” and “increased police presence may have caused concern”.

Ch Insp Chris Conway said: “Following a report of concerns regarding threats made towards school settings via social media, officers have made an arrest.”

He said: “At this time we do not believe that any schools had been attended and there were no injuries.

“Please do not speculate about this incident on social media as there is an ongoing investigation but if you have any immediate concerns, please approach the neighbourhood team who will be on foot.”
