dead things are back with their blistering debut EP, a sinister four tracks covering murder, history and… dead things. Wayne AF Carey reviews…

dead things are a unique group in that they’re fascinated by true stories of gruesome murders in the realms of Preston and Lancashire which they bring to life in full effect with their blasting power punk songs that blow you away. One listen to this EP and you’ll be begging for more. Short sharp shocks to the ears from a power trio that mean business, pack a punch and deliver to a high standard in todays stakes. Front vocalist / guitarist Sic Turtle explains and even shares the actual news clips of the factual characters…

Max Haslam:

ST: “Max Haslam was a dwarf who murdered an elderly woman and hung her dog from the bedpost in Nelson.”

A fucking kick in the nether regions with Sic screaming the vocals over a riff very similar to Idles – Gram Rock yet twisted into their own loud as fuck sound. Brilliant and he even fucks off Black Francis in the screaming stakes with an excellent back line of bass and drums from Gangfish and Raygun.

The killer dwarf who murdered a spinster and hung her beloved dog from the bedpost – LancsLive

Buck Ruxton:

“Buck Ruxton was a physician convicted and subsequently hanged for the September 1935 murders of his wife, Isabella Ruxton, and the family housemaid, Mary Jane Rogerson, at his home in Lancaster.”

A great rumbling punk tune that doesn’t let up. 1 minute 19 secs of pure loud as fuck joy.

The Lancashire doctor whose gruesome double-murder pioneered the use of forensics – LancsLive

John Simpson:

“John Simpson murdered his wife to be on their wedding day at The Walter Scott Inn, Church Street, Preston.”

The slow number that kicks in with a low slung sinister bassline and duel vocals that remind me of McClusky and Future Of The Left. Sic is obviously influenced by Andy Falkous on this bastard of a tune. Clever stuff and an absolute head kicker live. The guitars on this are amazing, yet he couldn’t pull off the riffs without his sidekicks.

The tragic Preston bride murdered on her wedding day aged just 16 – LancsLive

Bill Allen:

“Margaret ‘Bill’ Allen: who murdered a woman in Rawtenstall, Lancashire.”

Two minutes of hardcore punk adrenaline to shear the skin off your face, it’s that solid. Fast as fuck drums, shredding guitars and fingertip battering bass all in one glorious fucked up shouty mess. Yes!

Margaret Allen: The transgender killer who committed Rawtenstall’s first murder – LancsLive

dead things are:

Sic Turtle: guitars / vocals
Gang Fish: bass / vocals
Ray Gun: drums
