Forward Lauren James suffered a hamstring injury midway through England’s 5-0 win over Belgium in April and there is no timeline for her return.

James, who has earned plaudits for her physicality, confidence and game-changing creativity, has scored seven goals in 27 appearances for England, including three goals and three assists at the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

The Chelsea forward was not included in the England squad for upcoming Nations League matches against Portugal and Spain, but manager Sarina Wiegman isn’t ruling her out of the Euros just yet.

“She can’t join us in the next camp but we are trying to build together with her club,” Wiegman said. “She really wants to go to the Euros and hopefully we can get her fit and ready to go into it.

“I want to give it a chance. She is a special player who has moments in the game that can be decisive, so let’s see how far she gets and what she can bring us. I know she is working really hard to get there.”
