Four fire engines were used to tackle a blaze at a disused nightclub in Paignton earlier, the fire service said.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service (DSFRS) said it received reports of smoke issuing from the building at Roundham-with-Hyde at about 14:20 BST on Thursday.
It said the fire involved disused building materials and flooring and was contained to the second floor.
DSFRS said the incident was ongoing but crews had used “small tools to cut away and ensure all hotspots were extinguished.”
It said: “Three fire engines attended with a further request for another fire engine to assist with additional personnel to tackle the fire.
“Firefighters used breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets and a safety jet along with thermal imaging cameras and multi gas detectors at the incident.
“Police were also requested to attend to assist with local road closures due to number of fire service resources in attendance.”
