Five Bridges ‘cars and coffee’ venue granted alcohol licence

A ‘cars and coffee’ venue in Devon has been given permission to serve alcohol.

RE: Fuel Southwest, which brings car and motorbike enthusiasts together over food and refreshments, applied for an alcohol and entertainment licence so that it could open as a restaurant and host events in the evening.

Mid Devon District Council’s licencing sub-committee waved through the request meaning the venue – Five Bridges in Cullompton – would now be able to serve alcohol.

Representatives from the venue had a meeting with Devon and Cornwall Police to discuss what conditions might be needed before the licence request was submitted.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, three residents objected to the licencing application with fears including the venue being situated on a “very dangerous stretch of road”.

However, the council noted that road safety concerns were not relevant to deciding whether to grant alcohol and entertainment licences.
