Ishan Kishan: Nottinghamshire sign India wicketkeeper on short-term deal

Nottinghamshire have signed India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan on a short-term County Championship deal.

The 26-year-old, who has featured in two Tests for India as well as a combined 59 One-Day and T20 international appearances, will be available for Notts’ red-ball fixtures against Yorkshire and Somerset this month.

Kishan will fill in for Kyle Verreynne, who will be away with World Test Championship-winning South Africa for their two-match series in Zimbabwe.

He has most recently played in the Indian Premier League for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Having spent his entire first-class career at home with Jharkand in the Ranji Trophy, where he has amassed almost 3,450 runs with a career-best knock of 273, Kishan is eager to make a mark on the English game.

“I’m feeling very excited to get my first taste of playing county cricket in England, and it will be a great chance to showcase my skills,” he told the club website., external

“I want to make sure I am the best cricketer I can be, and playing in English conditions will really help me to learn new skills.

Nottinghamshire head coach Peter Moores says the Kishan “brings proven quality” to the County Championship Division One leaders.

They will start Sunday’s home game against Yorkshire with a 10-point advantage over Surrey, the champions for the last three years.
