Just days to go before 1 May elections in Exeter

There’s just days to go  before next week’s elections in Exeter.

On Thursday 1 May, people will go to the polls across the city. There will be elections for Devon County Council, as well as by-elections in two City Council wards: Mincinglake & Whipton; and Topsham.

Thousands of postal votes have been sent out and people are being reminded to return these as soon as possible.

For those who don’t get around to returning their postal votes in the post, there is an opportunity to return these at a polling station across the city. However, due to new legislation, everyone who does so on the day, will need to complete a form when returning it at a polling station.

Polling stations – a total of 55 – across Exeter – will be open from 7am until 10pm on the day of the election. Voters can find out which polling station they need to go to on the day by visiting the City Council’s website and inputting their post code or address: exeter.gov.uk/pollingstations

And voters are being reminded that they need to make sure they bring appropriate photo ID when voting.

The requirement was introduced by the government in 2023 and applies to those voting in person at a polling station.

A passport, driving licence, or an older person’s bus pass are just three of a number of forms of ID that are accepted.

For a full list of accepted ID, people can visit the Electoral Commission website at www.electoralcommission.org.uk/voting-and-elections/voter-id/accepted-forms-photo-id
