Time is fast running out for anyone who wants to apply for free photo ID in order to vote in the local elections on 1 May.Â
The deadline to apply for Voter Authority Certificates 5pm on Wednesday 23 April.Â
Voters need to show photo ID when voting in person in the elections, like a driving licence or passport.Â
If they do not have a photo ID that allows them to vote, they can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate for free. Â
This is a paper document with a photo on it that can be used to prove identity when voting.Â
Applications can be made online at https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-voter-authority-certificateÂ
People only need to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate if they vote in person and:Â
- do not have accepted photo IDÂ
- no longer look like the photo on their IDÂ
- have a different name on their photo ID than their name on the electoral registerÂ
Elections for Devon County Council will be held throughout Exeter on Thursday 1 May.   Â
There will also be by-elections for two City Council wards on the same day, in Mincinglake & Whipton, and Topsham.   Â
