Crews have been tackling a fire in a laundry room at Luton Town Football Club.

Pictures shared on social media appeared to show firefighters faced with black smoke billowing from inside the Kenilworth Road stadium.

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called at 20:08 BST and the fire was put out in less than two hours.

Crews remained on the scene and a full road closure was still in place on Hatters Way.

Firefighters said they wore breathing apparatus and used an aerial platform, a 9m (30ft) ladder and two hose reels during the incident.

The Hatters are due to host Coventry City at 12:30 BST on Saturday in a match of huge significance for both ends of the table.

Luton moved to Kenilworth Road – known by fans as The Kenny – in 1905. It currently has about 12,000 seats.
