New cemetery bench in Exeter welcomed by locals

A new bench inside an Exeter cemetery has been replaced after being hit by a car.

The wooden bench in Exeter Higher Cemetery was recently badly damaged after a car accidentally reversed into it.

Fortunately, Exeter City Council quickly installed a new one to replace the original.

A plaque from the old bench was also transferred to the new one.

Friends of Exeter Higher Cemetery took to Facebook to announce the new bench.

They said: “The work was arranged by Nick Mead, Commercial Operations Manager for the Council’s Public Realm team.

“We would like to thank Nick Mead and the City Council for arranging this and for doing it so quick

The Friends of Higher Cemetery promote the cemetery as both a place of remembrance and as a public open space. They offer monthly history talks and tours.

They have also developed a public Higher Cemetery Tree Trail walk. To find out more, visit the Friends of Higher Cemetery website at https://sites.google.com/site/friendsofhighercemetery/
