Owen Oseni: Plymouth Argyle sign St Mirren forward for undisclosed fee

Plymouth Argyle have signed St Mirren striker Owen Oseni for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old has signed a three-year contract after a remarkable rise through the leagues in England and Scotland in the past year.

The Irish striker joined National League side Gateshead last July after being released by Derby County and scored 13 goals in 24 league appearances before moving to St Mirren in January.

Despite making just 11 substitute appearances for the Scottish top-flight side, Oseni has done enough to persuade Argyle to bring him to Devon.

Argyle are in need of additional attackers after Ryan Hardie and Mustapha Bundu left the club this month – new signing Jamie Paterson is their only recognised senior forward.

“His form with Gateshead shows that he is a player who knows where the goal is,” head coach Tom Cleverley told the club website.

“He scored a variety of goals for them and is still at an age where he has a lot of potential for improvement.

“We think being with us at Argyle gives us a great opportunity to develop him as a player.”

Head of football operations David Fox added: “It is important we put together a portfolio of forwards with a range of attributes.

“Our data shows that Owen offers an exceptional physical output – he is strong, quick and powerful.

“We will always look to add people who we feel will suit our style of play, and Owen will do that.”
