Pyncher are unarguably one of the most happening bands to emerge from the most musically happening city of Manchester in recent years, and they’re at it again with the release of the splendidly named Space Rocket Simulator.

We’ve scarcely had chance to draw breath since the thoroughly engaging Get Along landed before another inventive peach of a Pyncher single arrives. Again a live favourite, Space Rocket Simulator is a song which, just like a Pyncher show, will see a happily bemused grin on the listener’s face throughout. The track careers between cacophonous stabbing guitars, Sam Blakeley’s intriguing verses and the wistfully dreamy chorus, complete with appropriate sci-fi synth flourishes (apparently winning out over Sam’s harmonica solo which has featured of late). Pyncher have tended to take a less is more approach to their sound in the past, but the freedom to have a bit of fun in the studio and the addition of the keyboards option has undoubtedly added a degree of versatility.

Lyrically, Pyncher tend to straddle the line between endearing nonsense and profundity, and Space Rocket Simulator is no exception;

‘Listen boy,
If you want to see a window,
Just take a look outside.
You’ve got it wrong
Wishing for tomorrow,
Stop trying to waste my time.’

Confused? Fortunately, Sam is on hand to explain; “The lyrics ‘If you want to see a window, just take a look outside’ are a playful yet poignant invitation into a space where external exploration mirrors internal growth.” Obvious really.

But it’s Pyncher’s determination to avoid the obvious in everything they do which makes them such an exciting proposition. And for all its quirky eccentricity, Space Rocket Simulator has undoubted popular appeal – an absolute joyride of a single and a further boost to their potentially stratospheric upward trajectory.

Louder Than War is run by a small but dedicated independent team, and we rely on the small amount of money we generate to keep the site running smoothly. Any money we do get is not lining the pockets of oligarchs or mad-cap billionaires dicating what our journalists are allowed to think and write, or hungry shareholders. We know times are tough, and we want to continue bringing you news on the most interesting releases, the latest gigs and anything else that tickels our fancy. We are not driven by proft, just pure enthusiasm for a scene that each and every one of us is passionate about.

To us, music and culture are eveything, without it, our very souls shrivel and die. We do not charge artists for the exposure we give them and to many, what we do is absolutely vital. Subscribing to one of our paid tiers takes just a minute, and each sign-up makes a huge impact, helping to keep the flame of independent music burning! Please click the button below to help.
