Anyone working with food is being given the chance to sign up for industry recognised food hygiene courses.Â
Exeter City Council is running the Level 2 Award in Food Safety and Hygiene, with the next course on 7 May. Â
The Royal Society of Public Health accredited courses are taught by the City Council’s Environmental Health Officers with a wealth of knowledge and practical experience, giving those taking part plenty of opportunity to ask food safety questions throughout the day. Â
The courses take place at the City Council-owned Matford Centre in Marsh Barton on the following dates:Â
- Wednesday 7 MayÂ
- Wednesday 9 JulyÂ
- Wednesday 17 SeptemberÂ
- Wednesday 26 NovemberÂ
The course costs just £62 per person for a full day’s training. The topics covered include:Â
- Basic bacteriologyÂ
- Food poisoningÂ
- Personal hygieneÂ
- Food contaminationÂ
- Food storage and temperature controlÂ
- Pest controlÂ
- Design of premises and equipmentÂ
- CleaningÂ
- Food safety law and managementÂ
For anyone who prefers to learn at their own pace, the Council also provides e-learning Level 2 (£21 per person), and for managers and supervisors, Level 3 (£130 per person) food safety courses.  Â
It’s a legal requirement that food handlers are supervised and instructed and/or appropriately trained. Â
These qualifications are ideal for people to comply with this requirement and gain valuable experience. Putting the contents of this course into practice will give food business operators a good chance of achieving that all-important food hygiene rating of five.Â
