Live Review
Mancunian punk legends play rare hometown sold out show with reshuffled line up and their glam punk brings the house down.
The recent trials and tribulations in the SATD camp are well documented now, and there’s no need to get into them again. The upshot of this, though, is that original members Mick Rossi, Howard Bates and Brian Grantham have been able to reclaim the name and use it for releases and gigs. The band celebrated with a sold out show in their hometown, and it was surely a candidate for gig of the year.
A lot of people were unsure if Slaughter And The Dogs would work as a three piece, but any doubts anyone may have had were dispelled immediately, the band walked onto the stage with the minimum of fanfare and launched straight into Now I Know from the second album Bite Back, this was followed by The Bitch, b side of their first single, the band were tight, and Mick and Howard sharing vocal duties was a masterstroke. The classics kept coming, You’re A Bore, Runaway, and a fantastic version of White Light White Heat. It was great to hear songs from the second album, I always feel it never gets the credit it deserves. One of the highlights was East Side Of Town, played as a tribute to Edweena Banger who sadly passed away recently. The band finished with Cranked Up Really High before coming back for a two song encore, they played a blistering version of the Mott The Hoople classic Golden Age Of Rock n Roll and ended the night with You’re Ready Now.
This really was a triumphant homecoming, the crowd were treated to something very special. If you’re going to Rebellion festival I urge you to see this band. They were on fire, they looked like they were enjoying every minute of it. I felt privileged to be there.
