Substation fire leaves homes in Exeter without power

Six fire engines have been sent to the scene in the St David’s area

A fire has broken out at an electrical substation, leaving hundreds of homes without power.

Devon and Somerset Fire & Rescue Service said it had received multiple 999 calls about a blaze off Fore Street in the centre of Exeter.

At about 07:55 BST, 405 homes were without electricity in the city.

National Grid said its engineers were working to restore power as quickly as possible.
