Lightbear Lane is hosting a reading of Shakespeare’s bloody revenge tale Titus Andronicus by professional actors with live music on Thursday 3 April at St Nicholas Priory.
Thought to be William Shakespeare’s first tragedy, Titus Adronicus begins as Roman general Titus returns from war with captives including Tamora, queen of the Goths.
When Titus kills her son, she vows revenge and a cycle of violence unfolds.

Lightbear Lane produces site-specific creative and heritage programmes. Recent projects include #ProudToBe, a co-created film featuring residents of Mincinglake and Whipton.
Grade I listed St Nicholas Priory was founded in 1087 by William of Normandy. Following the dissolution of the monasteries its remaining buildings became a prominent Elizabethan town house.
It was later subdivided into smaller houses and business premises before being restored then becoming a museum in 1916. Exeter Historic Buildings Trust became responsible for its use in 2018.
Titus Andronicus begins at 7.30pm on Thursday 3 April 2025 at St Nicholas Priory. There will be live music and a bar in the undercroft from 6.45pm.
